The Advocate's Exchange is a sharing symposium where best practices in survivor advocacy are shared. Advocates from local Floyd County and Polk County survivor and victim services organizations are invited. We gather to share what we know best and learn what we are curious about from other advocates who are more expert in specific areas. This yearly event provides a venue for sharing, learning, growth, and collaboration. The goal is to develop more broadly trained, effective, and nuanced advocacy services for families and children in our communities while providing space for genuine connection and relationship building between and across organizations.
The schedule for the day includes a welcoming from representative Katie Dempsey, safe space training, presentations on commercial sexual exploitation of children presentation, vicarious trauma, victim's compensation, making community change and standing out in a crowd, and child sexual abuse material. Breakfast and lunch will be provided. Lunch will be a "walk around" involving various nonprofit and community services representatives and leaders so you can learn more about services and agencies in Floyd and Polk Counties.
